Revd. [Reverend] I Duns F. [Free] Church Minister Torphichen George Cuthell Robert Meikle Forrests' Co. [County] map |
005 | [Situation] 49 chains SSE [South South East] of Lochcote This is one of the Refuge Stones marking out the Sanctuary of Torphichen where persons accused of offences not "Capital" sought Refuge by seeking the protection of the Church. It is situated in a Field on the Cathlaw Estate, and is a Standing Stone about four feet high, 2½ feet broad, and 1½ feet thick. On the northside can be traced the Outline of a St John's or Maltese Cross, which is now almost obliterated, and can only be seen at a distance of some yards from the stone. It was pointed out to me by the Revd. [Reverend] I. Duns, Torphichen. |
