[South] building and is now more modern than the remainder which are in very bad repair, low and thatched - the dwelling is one storey high and slated & in good repair, there is a vegetable garden on the E. [East] side there is a ledge of broken rocks for a short distance forming part of a fence, there are a few boulders on the S. [South] & the whole surface is covered with heather. The origin of the name is not known.

A large tract of moss beginning about ½ a mile N. [North] of BlacKburn Village & extending north to Drumelzie and and from near Heights on the east to near Drumbeg on the west. It is almost a complete flat being lower about the centre and it affords, particularly the N. [North] side, excellent peat b[l]ack & firm and is of a considerable depth, The name is said to have originated thus. Long before Coach Roads were formed the bridle or packhorse road between Edinburgh & Glasgow ran through this moss & on entering it the Post commenced blowing a horn to let the people in the vicinity Know he was passing. [North] East of East Craig Hill, it consists of the walls of two houses, the walls being still nearly entire, they stand on the N. [North] side of a by-road leading from Blackridge to Torphichen. the ground around that was formerly under cultivation is now rough pasture but still affords grazing for cattle.
