It is only one storey high and thatched & only in middling repair. It is very much exposed standing on a height S. [South] of the County boundary and near the extreme N. 008 | [Situation] About 1 mile S W [South West] of Drumduff. A large tract of moss beginning about ½ a mile N. [North] of BlacKburn Village & extending north to Drumelzie and and from near Heights on the east to near Drumbeg on the west. It is almost a complete flat being lower about the centre and it affords, particularly the N. [North] side, excellent peat b[l]ack & firm and is of a considerable depth, The name is said to have originated thus. Long before Coach Roads were formed the bridle or packhorse road between Edinburgh & Glasgow ran through this moss & on entering it the Post commenced blowing a horn to let the people in the vicinity Know he was passing. It is the property of D. G. Buchannan Esqu. & others. |
