002 [Situation] At the west end of the burgh of Queensferry
This is a stone level with the surface in which is a ring fastened it is on the Borough Boundary in the open space at the W [West] end of the High Street & in a line with West Gote Lane. How the name originated is not Known but is supposed to have originated in a bell being rung in former times to warn the inhabitants of the selling of goods at this place. At present meat is sold here on friday and all sales of earthenware & sometimes public roups takes place at this stone.
