010 | [Situation] In the eastern portion of the parish of Livingston A good farmstead in the form of a hollow square the S.E. [South East] portion is the dwelling house which is two stories high & slated there is a thrashing machine attached to the out buildings the whole in good repair - there is a large garden on S. [South] of the house - It is the property of Lord Roseberry It is mentioned in the statistical account that a Tower stood near this house which served as a hunting lodge to the Kings of Scotland but its site cannot be pointed out. Mr James Black, Newyearfield says, that he heard it stood somewhere S.E [South East] of the garden, he also says that the place marked A on the trace was a large garden at one time - the Rose Well is near this place where the Kings of Scotland used to touch for the Kings Evil - See t.
