[County] map 009 ; 010 ; 012 [Situation] In the South Side of the Co. [County] Linlithgow A parish in the south-east division of the County of Linlithgow. It is in a general point of view a long narrow stripe stretching South-westward and north-eastward but has two expansions the one sudden narrow and tapering and the other more slow and less excursive. In extreme length it measures 6¼ miles for two miles from the south it has a mean breadth of less than a mile over the next mile of its length it so projects westward as to have a breadth of nearly 3 miles for a mile further it is narrow to about ¾ mile and over the rest of its length it has a mean breadth of about 2 miles. It is bounded on the north-west by the southern part of Ecclesmachan on the north-east by Uphall on the east and south east by Edinburghshire on the south-west by Whitburn and on the west by Bathgate. Almond Water for 1¾ miles runs along the south edge of its angular westerly projection and then runs 3½ miles north-eastward a mile of this distance across the interior and the rest of it along the south-eastern boundary. - Coal, ironstone, limestone, and freestone, abound. OS1/34/49/4 LIVINGSTON (Continued) [continued from page 3] Livingston is in the presbytery of Linlithgow and Synod of Lothian and Tweeddale Patron the Earl of Roseberry. The Church was anciently a vicarage. The parish till 1730 when two thirds of its area was disjoined and made independent, comprehended besides its present limit, all the parish of Whitburn. There are no detached portions of any parish within Livingston nor are there any detached portions of this parish within any other

It is a plain building of recent erection two storeys high. North west of the house is the farm steading, near it is the garden. In the close vicinity of the house are the ornamental grounds, and a number of the parks are bounded by belts of plantation. The tenant is Mr Thomas Wylie, Grazier the proprietor Thomas Wilson Esq. [Statistical Account] Fullarton's Gazetteer 010 [Situation] About ⅝ mile E by S. [East by South] of Dechmont. This name is applied to the higher of two prominent ridges between Knightsridge and Dechmont House. It is covered with rough pasture, roocks however in many places projecting. There is a Trig. Stat. [Trigonometrical Station] on it called Dechmont. It forms part of the estates of Knightsridge and Dechmont.

A scattered village situate on the high road leading from Edinburgh to Glasgow by Bathgate, consisting of houses one storey high, in good repair having small vegetable gardens attached: they are held in feu from Mr William Wilson of Dechmont and Mitchell Innes Esq. of Ingliston, and are mostly occupied by agricultural laborers. Some of the houses are at a considerable distance from the main part of the village nevertheless are considered as part of the village.
