006 | [Situation] In the N E [North East] portion of Linlithgow parish An elegant mansion house 3 storeys high and slated, recently erected, having a large domain attached, thickly studded with wood; the mansion is surrounded with ornamental wood and shrubs, with numerous gravel walks, very tastefully laid out; and is situated a little north of the high road leading from Linlithgow to Edinburgh and about 2 miles distant from the former place the principal entrance is from the high road, where there is a neat Lodge in which the GameKeeper resides there is a large flower, fruit, and vegetable garden which is about ΒΌ of a mile N.E. [North East] from the House; and the offices (consisting of Coach house, Stabling and dwelling houses for some of the servants) are a little to the East of the Mansion and are all in very excellent repair; at the west end of the Mansion there is a Green house. The property and residence of Captain Robert, Hawthorn, Johnston Stewart, late of her Majestys 15th Light Dragoons. |
