This line though constructed by a distinct Company is now held on lease by the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway Company on condition of paying 4 per cent per annum on the shares to the former company The lease I understand is a very long one and therefore the lease is considered in some degree a branch of the Edin [Edinburgh] and Glasgow Railway - It is simply called the Bathgate Branch by the Company's Servants.

Ryal Burn is the continuation of Beugh Burn eastwards from the Union Canal to its confluence with Brox Burn.
