[East] of the house is a handsomely arranged portion of wood nearly in the form of a quadrangle - in the Centre is a statue of Hercules from which radiates 8 grassy Avenues, lined on each side with tall lime trees which have a very fine effect - In rear of the house is a line of Fish Ponds extend nearly the whole length of the platform they are formed like a Canal having locks; one raised above the other having small Stone platforms over which the water falls forming small Cascades - in the Centre is a large semicircular basin which as well as being a Fish Pond serves for a Curling Pond - While at each end there are two smaller ponds - there are three other small ponds in the grounds - The offices are in good repair & are a short distance S.W. [South West] of the house and there is also walled in Flower Vegetable garden or gardens in a good state of horticulture - The resident proprietor is James Hogg Esqr. Justice of the Peace
