This name applies to a Small Village on the banks of the River Almond, where the road from Edinburgh to Queensferry crosses the river. The Village consists chiefly of detached dwelling houses some of them having gardens attached. an Inn, with stabling attached, a farm house, and steading; And a Corn and flour Mill worked by water - There are small gas works adjacent to the Mill, erected by Hope Vere Esq. (the proprietor of them) for lighting Craigiehall.
