009 | [Situation] About ΒΌ mile NNW [North North West] of the Parish Church. A large & handsomely built mansion, standing N. [North] of the town in a park well stocked with trees - the house is composed of a centre three stories high and two wings two stories, and the W. [West] end, surrounding two small Court Yards is only one storey - the front faces to the N. [North] and the entrance by a porch surmounted by a neatly executed stone ballustrade above which in front of the main building rise four Corinthian pillars & four pillasters, the whole front is handsomely decorated by festoons of flowers &c cut in relief together with the Arms of the family of Marjoribanks, whose property is was but now in the hands of trustees. It is getting fast out of repair & the Office, a little West of the house are ruinous and all the walks &c formerly [in] the large garden adjoining the Offices are ploughed up & vegetables & Cattle food grown in it.
