009 [Situation] On the west side of Engine Street near the end of South Bridge Street.
This is the oldest Inn in the town and it being situated on the Edinburgh and Glasgow road, it was the principal place of accommodation for travellers previous to the Opening of the Railways. It is two storeys high with stabling &c. attached and affords excellent accommodation for travellers.

009 [Situation] About 15 chains N by E [North by East] of the parish Church.
This pit is a short distance E [East] of Balbardie Ho. [House] and is worked by an engine of 4 horse power the vein is 3 feet 8 thick and consists of Common Coal - Parrot or Gas Coal Iron Stone and Clay - the mine is approached by a tunnel at an L [angle] of about 30 degrees and 63 fathoms to the workings. there is a tramway and the produce is brought in trucks - It is on the Marjoribanks' estate.
