This is the principle street in the town and where the market is held, it is wide and the houses are two stories high, well built and slated, and for the most part have gardens in rear, it contains some very good shops and two public houses, in this street is the National Branch Bank and the grave Yard attached to the Parish Church bounds it at the N.W. [North West] end where there is an entrance gate to the Church & Grave Yard, it extends from Hopetoun Street to the S.W. [South West] end of High Street
