009 | [Situation] 25 chains NE by E [North East by East] of South Couston. This is one of the Refuge Stones which define the Ancient Ecclesiastical Sanctuary of the Parish of Torphichen. The Maltese Cross which was engraved on it is now defaced. This stone is about three feet high and one foot in thickness It stands in an arable field on the Farm of Couston. |
