This was the ancient family seat of the Hamiltons of Ballencrieff, & Innerwick Co. [County] Haddington - now extinct and Consists only of the remains of one wing, forming the Kitchen, Mr. J. Johnston remembers seeing this part Complete and the track of the remainder was also visible some Years ago. It was an ancient building but its early history is lost in obscurity it is situated N. [North] of Balbardie House and Appears to have been surrounded by a moat there was a large lake on its N. [North] side but it has been drained for some time
