Close on his track and at last brought him to bay at this stone; he prepared to attack the boar and taking off his bachle i.e. [that is] "Old Shoe", he fastened it on his left hand as a protection, and at length slew the animal with his sword, and from this circumstance is derived the name Boarbachlie, Barbachlaw etc.
Also on the weavers Coat of Arms is a boar with a shuttle in his mouth in commemoration of the event. The accompanying list will show the different spellings of this name used in the locality.
