John Martin James Robertson Sampson Younger |
006 | [situation] On the top of Craigton Hill This is the Remains of what appears to have been a Very Strong Camp or Hill Fort. It is of a Circular form and in tolerable preservation. The Rema [Remains] of the Works are quite distinct and Can be traced without any difficulty: they are Composed of Earth, chiefly, in which are embedded Some large rough stones. - On the north side it was almost Inaccessible and required no defences; but on the South and East the remains of two Circular defences are quite distinct, and the faint traces of an Intermediate one. -- This is generally Called in the Locality a "Roman Camp", but from its Construction, shape, etc. I consider it one of those ancient Hill Forts. |
