002 [Situation] About 25 Chains SSE [South South East] of Hopetoun House.

This is the Remains of an Ancient Tower or small Castle, once belonging to a Family of the Dalyell's, and subsequ [subsequently] to one of Dundas. The Tower is in tolerable preservation; but the remain [remaining] part of the building is much dilapi [dilapidated] only the basement storey, which is Vau [Vaulted] and pierced with loopholes, remains and is used as a Deer Shed. The Build [Building] does not appear to have been any larger than its present extent: but must ha [have] had outbuildings etc which are all removed. It is situated on an Eminence in the Deer Park. The date of its erection is unknown
