002 | [Situation] In the western portion of the parish of Abercorn This is a small village on the main road from Linlithgow to Queensferry. It is formed by one row of houses, with others detached they are all built of freestone, gener [generally] one storey high, with small garden ground behind; for the most part occupied by the proprietors, they are erected upon feus from the Earl of Hopetoun. In the Village is an Inn called the Duddingston Arms, a grocer's shop and a Smithy. Two farms from their position in regard to the Village are called N & S [North & South] Newton. |
