094 This name applies to what was formerly a ford on Loch Shin situated about 3/4 of a mile west of Lairg Hotel. There is a tradition in the district that it was artificially constructed so as to form a dam whereby the Sutherlandmen were enabled to flood the River Shin by which means they prevented the McKays of Strathnaver from crossing upon several occasions. It signifies the "Dam of the wood"
