029 This name applies to the remains of an ancient building which very probably - belonged to the Picts, from the construction of the building. It is of a circular Shape and measures about 70 feet in diameter. It is composed of very large Stones So large indeed that it would be thought impossible for any number of men to raise them to Such a height without the aid of machinery. None of these Stones are drest nor is there any appearance of Morter having been used in building it. The outer wall is about 12 feet thick, and Similar to Some of the Pictish houses, already described, in Caithness. the entrance is a long narrow passage or passages one of which is still partly open. Immediatly over this passage there appears to have been another passage which as well as the height of the building shows that they have had chambers above chambers, the lower flat being sunk under the Surface of the Knoll on which the Stonework is erected. I can get no information about this place but I have no doubt it is one of the Picts towers, from the munter of Stones which have fallen from the top it has evidently been, at least double its present height [continued page 240]
