113 It consists of a high square tower (five storeys) with a spiral stair-case at the south-east angle and a tall chimney stack. Tradition tells us that the palace extended to the cathedral on the north side and to the east occupied the space now taken up by the County Buildings. Until the present prison was built part of this building was used as a prison. At present one storey is used as an Armoury for the Dornoch Volunteers. The rest is shut up and in bad condition. The date of its erection cannot be ascertained.
