Extracts from Gordons Earldom of Sutherland
098 Applied to the supposed site of an Old Battlefield situated adjacent to the district of Easter ClyneKirKton.
"Patrick Gordon of Garty, John Gordon of Enbo, and John Gordon of KilcalmKill, with such as would follow them, and perceiving the Caithness men driving away a great herd of Cattle before them upon the sands of Kintradwell, they could not endure the same with patience, but presently went forward more rashly than wisely, having sun and the Wind full against them, invaded the enemy with great fury, rescued the Cattle, and Skirmished with great obstinacy hard by Clyne, where after a long fight for two days, with much Courage variety of fortune, and with almost equal Slaughter on either side, the Caithness men perceiving the night at hand, withdrew themselves along the Coast side to their own Country. The inhabitants of Sutherland with resolute valour, took the booty of Cattle with them, and so retired themselves to a bush of wood in Strathbrora, two miles from the place where they had fought so long with uncertain victory."
His Grace the Duke of Sutherland propr. [proprietor] (See extracts from Gordons History of the Earldom of Sutherland)
