017.03 | A Very neat Gothic building two Storeys high, with yard and Gardens attached. Situated off Spittal Street. Was erected by Voluntary Subscriptions from amongst the Community of the Burgh, aided by a Donation of £200 from the Trustees to the late Mr Ferguson, and it is Supported Solely by Voluntary Subscriptions and Contribution, The 1st storey Contains the matrons Room, two dormitories refectory and Kitchen; the 2nd Storey Contains the School rooms. It is under the management of a Committee elected from the Subscribers, the internal arrangement is conducted by a male teacher and a matron, who are paid an annual Salary from the Subscriptions received. The object of this institution is to maintain, Clothe and educate neglected and destitute children and Orphans. Branches taught, reading, writing Arithmetic &c. The Boys are also employed daily two hours at Active employment. The Girls are also instructed in Sewing, Knitting, and household work. Average attendance 52. |
