017.03 | This is the place where the Market Cross formerly Stood, and where all proclamations had to be made etc, it was taken down in 1792 by Order of the Magistrates and town council. The pedestal on which the Cross Stood is Said to be in shape, Octagonal, with Steps on each side, and about four feet in height and eight feet in diameter. The Site where it Stood was pointed Out by Mr William Galbraith, Town Clerk, - there is nothing on the ground at the present time to mark where it Stood. |
