It is a Stately Structure, three Storeys high, and built in a Singular Style of Architecture, emblematic figures Standing on the Wreathed balustrade Pillars on Pedestals supported by grotesque figures, under something like gothic Arches And impediments of the Windows; it was built during the reign of James V and is in the form of a Square with a Small Court in the middle, where the King's Lions are said to have been kept, and is Still known by the name of the "Lions Den". The ground Storey of the Palace is now converted into a Canteen, Storehouses etc and the upper Storeys are Occupied as Soldiers Quarters. |
