028.12 This is situated near the Manse and was the burying place of the Livingstones in the 16th &17th Centuries, Previous to the year 1815 the Parish Church stood over it and when that was removed the vault was in the open Churchyard, uncovered, except with flagstones, In 1850 the proprietor caused to be erected a small building over it and caused an account of it to be carved on the front, There have been no interments in it since the family of Kilsyth became extinct, the present proprietor's burying place being at Duntreath. The following is the inscription:
"Beneath this stone are deposited the remains of Jean Cochrane, Viscountess of Dundee, Wife of The Honourable William Livingstone of Kilsyth, and of their infant son. Their deaths were caused by the falling in of a house, composed of turf, in Holland, Mr Livingstone was with difficulty extricated the Lady, her child, and the nurse were killed, This occurred in the Month of October MDCXCV [1695]. In MDCCXCV [1795] the vault over which the Church at that time stood having been accidentally opened, the bodies of Lady Dundee and her son, which had been embalmed in Holland, were found in a remarkable state of preservation, After being for some time exposed to view the vault
