024.09 | The ruins of this Castle are situated near the Southern extremity of, and in, Tor Wood. the walls of it are still complete, but the roof has fell in, an extensive courtyard would appear to have been attached, as a considerable portion of the west wall is still standing, the remainder being traceable, there are no existing remains, or even traces, of any artificial defensive works around it, neither does the founder appear to have taken advantage of the very formidable defence which the top of the glen would have afforded him, had he erected the building 200 yards further north. tradition is altogether silent with regard to this Castle, the probable date of its erection, or by whom or why built is unknown. It is the property of Col [Colonel] Dundas, Carron Hall, Larbert |
