008 | A Considerabl river having its source from Ben Lomond and running in an Easterly direction as far as "Alloa" where it forms itself into an Estuary and is called the "Firth of Forth" "The Forth" says D[octo]r Graham, speaking from per[sonal] exploration, "has its source from from a Spring the northern side of Ben Lomond, near the sum[mit]. It traverses Stirlingshire for 10 miles from its source under the appellation of the "Water of Duchray", augmented, as it proceeds, by numberless mountain streams. It then enters Perthshire where it receives an accession equal to the volume of its own Waters, in the river which issues from Lochard in Aberfoyle. It then assumes the name of Avendow or "Black River", after a course of about 5 miles, it again joins Stirlingshire below Gartmore house, where it obtains the name Forth, which it retains."
