041.03 | Applies to the ruin of an ancient Pictish stronghold situated in a small island near the head of "West Burra Firth. The ruins are nearly covered with rubbish but the walls appears to be about 6 feet in height and about 20 feet thick at the base. There are the remains of eleven small chambers, in the wall, which have evidently been connected by a passage, with one another and with the interior of the building. The door faces to the northwest. This island is connected with another island of smaller size which is situate and on which there is said to have been another Pictish building between high and low water mark, by a stone causeway erected over a series of conduits. |
