007.04 | Nothing but the Site on which these Objects Stood can now be pointed out, and even part of the Site has been washed away by the Sea. There is a tradition in the neighbourhood that this place was once the Seat of a bishop, and that the place of worship was large, & had a very high Spire. The late Mr. Irvine, Midbreck, was Said to possess Some written documents relating to these Antiquities. They are situated close to H.W.M. [High Water Mark] on the NW. [North West] side of Papil Bay, on the property of Major Cameron of Garth &c. Both the Chapel & Burial Ground are considered to belong to a very remote period, but so little is known about them that no particular period is assigned. [Initialled] J.Y. |
