004.16 | The Remains of an ancient Pictish Stronghold or Brough: Situated on the N. [North] eastern extremity of the island of Yell, and at the N.W. [North West] corner of "Brough Bay", This building, which appears to have been Similar in Construction to the many other Broughs in Shetland; Simply presents the appearance of a green mound or a heap of Stones & rubbish overgrown with grass: As this object has not been opened, save a slight aperture in the top of the mound, little or nothing is known concerning the nature of its interior but the warrantable Supposition of its similarity to other Broughs: The main building or mound appears to have been enclosed by an outer wall of defence, of hasty construction, leaving an intermediate ditch about 15 feet wide.
