053.06 This name applies to a narrow strait seperating the Islands of Bressay & Noss from one another it is about a quarter of a mile wide at its greatest and about one hundred yards at its narrowest breadth, its length is about three quarters of a mile, the crossing of the strait is rendered extremely difficult, on acount, of the rapidity of the different tides passing to and fro. Boats in making the passage are liable to be swept out either the north or south to open sea.
