029 ; 036 This name is Given to an island Situated at the southern extremity of that part of Shetland Known as "Northermaven" It is seperated from the mainland of Shetland on the north, by a narrow Channel called "Roe Sound," on the east, it is bounded by a bay or estuary, Known as "Busta Voe," on the south by a Sheet of Water Called "Swarback's Minn," and on the west by an arm of the Atlantic Ocean Known as "Saint Magnus Bay," In shape, it is nearly circular being about three miles long, and the same in width, the General surface is bare, rugged, & rocky, the exceptions to this, being only a narrow strips along the east coast, where there are some 32 or 33 families having each a small croft or farm. There is one school on the island, supported chiefly , by the Society for Propagating Christian Knowledge. There are no Antiquities. The entire island belongs to the Parish of Delting, and is the property or held in Trust for Miss Gifford Lerwick.
