056.02 this name is given to a Village situated on a bay or harbour & small headland in the SE [South East] of the parish of Tingwall and about 3 miles due S [South] of the parish church. it is also distance west of Lerrwick about 6 miles. The dwellings are situated in a straggling manner along the said bay on the whole they are neat and in fair repair. Fish curing is the only industry which is carried on in rather an extensive way - There is a Post Office & Telegraph Office Situated in the Blackness Portion of the Village, letters arrive at 8 am and depart at 3.30 The propritors are various.
