011.02 A pleasantly situated gentlemans seat surrounded by ornamental woods, with a beautifully laid out flower garden in front of the dwelling, situated six miles from SelKirK.
On the site of the present dwelling house which was built ten years ago by the present proprietor Mr Johnstone, stood an old mansion accidentally burnt in 1716 which belonged to the Murrays of Philiphaugh who were originally the proprietors of Hangingshaw

011.01 ; 011.02 A large extent of wood on the Hangingshaw Estate composed ot old Birch trees, which stand immediately behind & around the house. Recently additional mixed woods have been added to the old one which are all included under the same name.
