Camp | Camp (Remains of) Camp (Remains of) Camp (Remains of) |
Admiral Pringle, Torwoodlee James Pringle Esqr. Torwoodlee Mr William Kemp, Galashiels |
004.13 | The remains of a large "Camp, Situated on a hill, a short distance northwest of Torwoodlee (House) It, appears to have Consisted on the north, and West Sides, of a double "fosse" And "ramparts"; and the latter to have been, very large, and Constructed with Stones, and, earth, the South, and, Southeast Sides, have been very much defaced, and are not very distinctly tracable. A short distance, from the "Camp", on the north, and northwest, there are the remains of a deep trench, and having a rampart on the outside, portions of which, are still very distinct. There is no particular name, given to this Camp, but it would appear to be in, this direction, the termination of the "Catrail" and is supposed to have been constructed about the same time as the latter. |
