012 | The burgh of Selkirk Reports the Commissioners on Municipal Corporations is said to be of Ancient foundation, but the oldest Charter Preserved is one granted by King James V dated 4th March 1535, which with Subsequent Charters granted in 1540 were Ratified by the Scottish Parliament in an act in favour of the burgh dated 28th June 1633. On a Petition from the Magistrates and Town Council the Sheriff of Selkirk after investigation Pronounced a deliverance dated 29th June 1863, delineating the boundaries of the Burgh under the "General Police and Improvement Scotland Act 1862". It is governed by a Provost & 15 Councillors. |
