012.05 A beautiful sheet of water in front of The Haining house, about ¾ths of a mile in length by better than a ¼ in breadth, and in some parts it is said to be 140 feet deep. A boat is kept on it, and it is said that Pike, Perch, and Trout. abound in it.
There are pipes from it to the Market place & other parts of the Town of Selkirk for the purpose of supplying the inhabitants with W [water]

012.05 A small stream issuing from The Haining Loch and. which. after a run of about a mile to "The Green", enters underground and disappears, it joins the mill [lade] somewhere about the gas works - I [It is] insignificant in itself, and only notable as being the outlet for the Loch
