North West] by Stow- The general aspect is hilly with winding vales - the greatest height, that of Meigle, a hill overlooking the town, is of 1400 feet, and the lowest plain, situated at the junction of the Tweed and Gala is 200 feet above the level of the sea - The church was built in 1813, in the semigothic style, terminated with a square tower, is in the best state of repair. It was built to hold between 800 and 900, but by the help of benches along the areas it accommodates about 1000 hearers - The manse, built about 48 years ago, is an excellent house |
