| Ettrick | Ettrick (Parish) | "The Ettrick," on the south side of a range of hills, called- "the back bone of the country," rises from among a few rushes between Loch_fell and Capel_fell, two miles above Patburn, said to be the highest farm house above the level of the sea in the south of Scotland _ It is fed by many a little raging mountain torrent - where it is small, and viewed from the top of the hills in a fine sunny day, it is like a thread of Silver; but when raised by the storms and the Rain, it bids defiance to all its banks, and sweeps over the adjoining haughs with the raging fury of a mountain sea.
