A hill of slight elevation on the farm of Heip, there is a Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Station on its Summit The Common Pronunciation of ea in this district resembles the sound of the dipthong ei in Greek, tea is pronounced accordingly tie &c. Heip however seems now to be generally adopted though evidently a corruption of Heap.

A Slightly elevated ridge from whence a very good view of Hawick is obtained,
A small conical hill of basaltic formation on the lands of Heip in the Parish of Wilton - which gives the name of Kippilaw to two or three Cottages Standing on a lower ridge near to it and also to a small Lake or Moss at the base called Kippilaw Moss - or the Kipp Moss - It is usually termed "Kippilaw Moss" - but the proper name for the hill is simply "The Kipp".
