008.11 | An area Containing about 40 acres of pasture, on which is held Annually, on the 18th July. (or the Monday following if the 18th fall on Sunday). "St Boswells Fair" one of the largest in the South of Scotland for the sale of Sheep, Lambs, and Wool It belongs to various proprietors, the principal being His Grace the Duke of Buccleuch who receives the Customs accruing from the Fair - Tradition Says that St Boswells Fair was long ago held in a haugh on the banks of the Tweed, East of the present Church, but that a high flood happening on the fair day, the Market was transferred to the present Green, and hence, perhaps, has got the Name of the plan formerly used for that Market. |
