034.01 [Situation] On Southdean Law.
An irregular And rudely Constructed Camp, on the Western end of Southdean Law. The ground on the inside seems to have been hollowed into pits in several parts the Hill. This & the rude Construction of the entire work, is strong proof of its origin being previous to the times of the Romans since which period places of strength have been raised with much greater regularity. This Camp is seemingly the remains of an Ancient British Town.

Parish of Southdean Plan 34.1 Trace 1

Such antiquities have been hitherto characterised
on Plans as Forts. There are not sufficient
remains to indicate its site as having been that of
a British town nor are the existing remains of this encampment
of those dimensions and form generally characterised as Camps. [initials of WSJ]
