Melrose (Parish) Continued

There is a considerable portion of the Town of Galashiels in Melrose parish, as well as 4 pretty sized Villages, namely Darnick Gattonside & Newstead each about a mile distant from Melrose, & in the same Valley - & Newton 3 miles to the south-east -

The parish church which was removed in 1810 from the Abbey ruins, where it had been since the Reformation, is on the top of Weir Hill, a short distance west from Melrose, It is conveniently situated for the population being nearly equidistant from the Village of Darnick, Gattonside & Newstead, the sittings are free -

The Manse, which was built in 1813, is in perfect repair-
The Glebe is 4 acres of poor land, & not worth £4.0.0 a year -
