003.12 An old Farmhouse divided into tenements, and occupied by farm labourers , there is a Small garden attached. Immediately on the North Side of this house is a small "Knoll on which there is the appearance of it having been built upon, and is supposed to have been the original 'Calfhill". It was in the possession of the Monks of Melrose who used to Keep calves and (young) Cattle here from which it was called "Calfhill" - ( It is a Modern erection)

003.12 A portion of Rocky ground near to the "Allan Water" and on the farm of Mosshouses, there are a few small precipitous cliffs - of "trap rock" here they are Said to have got this name from the residence of the proprietor J Dickson of "Chatto House"
