003.11 This is the grave of an old Piper, who resided in Galashiels, or its vicinity, he was at Lauder playing at the Merrymaking, or harvest home, And when the party broke up, someone made a remark, the he (the piper) would not be able to go that night to "Galashiels" after so much fatigue, to which he replied that he would , and play the whole way; but he was only able to reach this far, which is about 3 miles from the latter place, when he became so exhausted that he was obliged to lie down, and his remains were found here in the course of the following day, and were finally intered here. The place is marked by a large pile of Stones, erected in a longitudinal form - on the Side of the old road between Lauder & Galashiels .
