008.06 A small Village two miles distant from Melrose, and lying at the base of the Eastern Eildon hill, the houses are all very old and with few exceptions, thatched. Historians, state that a granary connected with the Abbey of Melrose, was established here, but the Site of it cannot now be pointed out, Several Roman Roads are Said to have diverged from this place, altho [although] no traces of them are now to be seen.
