009.04; 010.08 A Mean Wynd in the neighbourhood of Kelso Mill. This Street probably derived it's name from being the track of the Peat Cars to and from the abbey and to the Malt Kilns that were numerous in the neighbourhood. Many old turtaries are within a few miles of Kelso.

009.04 A piece of good masonry of cut stone (probably very old) at the entrance of the Mill Lead of Kelso Mill. Possibly it was the landing place for flat bottomed ferry boats, laden, when Roxburgh at St. James's Green was a flourishing Town. at the North end is placed a public privy. There are 3 more of these places in Kelso for the use of the public, few or none being attached to the houses, except these of the best class.
