021.05 | [Situation] Between Abbey Close and the Rampart. Jedburgh Abbey is Supposed to have been founded, in 1165, by David, although doubts exist on this point. The order of monks was imported from the Abbey of St. Quentin, at Beauvais, in France. Of the history of the Abbey, little that is definite is Known. In most of the frays in which the town was Concerned, the sacred edifice had its Share of injury and assault, Several times it was burned and pillaged, and the Canons Compelled to seek protection in religious houses in England and Scotland.
